Tuesday afternoon we had available free time so a few us were anxious to check out the shopping scene in London. We took the Underground to Bond Street, which had a different atmosphere than the Kensington Gardens area of which were staying. This area was more of a tourist center and highly populated. I felt like it had a “New York atmosphere”. As we were sight seeing we came across the legendary Selfridges Mall. It is one of the most cutting edge department stores in the world. The first floor was devoted to high fashion designer handbags and sunglasses…Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, and Chanel all within feet of each other!

That evening for dinner we all attended Brasserie Roux, an authentic French restaurant. This was definitely an experience for me, being the picky eater that I am. I was quite nervous going into the dinner, knowing that I would have to be brave and try something new. While looking over the menu, I knew I would have to try to the guinea fowl because I do not care for seafood nor do I care for sauce either, which then ruled out the pasta. I learned guinea fowl is a type of wild bird, much like a chicken. I was pleasantly surprised as it was much better than I expected. In the end I am glad that I was forced to try something new with my meal choices.

Immediately after dinner we rushed over to Her Majesty’s Theatre to see Phantom of the Opera. This again was a new experience for me. After seeing the opera, I don’t think it is really my “cup of tea”, but I am definitely glad that I got the chance to experience it once. The costumes alone were enough to watch. I was very impressed with the design and detail of them all. Also the stage props, lighting, and special effects were simply spectacular and made the whole experience worthwhile.
